KRAUSER K1 PANNIER FRAME TO BIKE FRAME FITTING KIT

Postby GraySWTRF » Fri Apr 15, 2016 9:32 pm

I know,I know.
Its a long shot, and I have emailed Krauser as well but no reply as yet.
By any remote chance, has anyone a K1 fitting kit lurking around anywhere ?
Or even a part number would help ?
I have the pannier racks,so I just need the fitting kit that attaches them to the bike frame.800 SR42.

You guys have helped me soo much so far,and all that help and advice is really appreciated.

I am sure Big Bob will be able to assist as he is an expert on panniers of the Krauser brand

They haven`t made the K1 system for at least 30 years and are now on the K5 system.
I used to have the K1 system back in the 70`s and 80`s but it was inferior to the later system as the locks used to break and the pannier fall off speed, as I found out!
I`ve been using the K2 system since about 1987 on a number of bikes as it`s a much better design, and have two systems for my Bigs.
They made a fitting kit for the K2 on the SR43 but not the K1 on the SR41 & SR42 iirc. You can still get one here for the SR43 K2 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-DR800- ... SwstxVEEst
Krauser went bankrupt at least two or three times back in the day so no surprise you are not getting a reply as they probably don`t have records going back that far.
You may get lucky on German Ebay as there`s a lot more DR Big stuff for sale there, ditto Krauser.
I`ve adapted the fitting kit off a different system onto mine and you will have to do the same as there`s no other way.
My advice would be to fit a cross brace as the K1 system had a horrible habit of wobbling about and breaking.

Thanks Bob,for the valuable info again.
A bit more fettling then for me.
I have seen K1 kits for other old bikes,so I think I will buy a couple of those, so at least I have a start with the special square ended bolts this set up needs. Then get the welder out of hibernation and make something up.

I tried to bend 18mm but there was no way with a pipe bender, I ended up using 14mm ,just took abit of time to get the bends right  but was alot cheaper and more fun than buying the frames
