The Somme

Postby Gaz800 » Sun Dec 06, 2015 10:25 pm

I visited the Somme in 2006, very emotional and humbling trip and I vowed I would return.
When I went we flew into charles de gaulle airport from Dublin and hired a car. I was lucky that my friend takes folk out to France/Belgium on tours, so I'd my own personal guide for 4 days.

Anyway, I'd love to go on the bike, stay in B&B's or Hotels (camping ain't for me lol) probably be 2017 as I'll need to save and plan!

Anyone here been on the bike?

If you read through some old posts you`ll see that four of us go several times a year to France exploring WW1 sites.
Further along the front line near Verdun etc it`s far more interesting than the Somme which is mostly ploughed over and cultivated now.
We spend a lot of time exploring old fortifications etc in the forests.
Maybe you could tag along with us old farts next time.
