Tyres

Postby busa46 » Mon Aug 25, 2014 3:30 pm

hi all just a couple of questions,
looking for a rear tyre for my DR600 1986, at the moment I have road off road tyres on, but I would like to change the rear tyre for more off road use, but my problem is that I can't seem to get one in that size. This is what is on the bike at the mo ( 130/80-17 ). What size can I get and what tyre pressure would you use off road?

Bridgestone TW302 is a good all round tyre that will be good off road. It`s also is good on tarmac and doesn`t wobble about like a lot of knobblies.
You`ll have to get a 4.60-17 rather than a 130-17, but it`s only very slightly narrower. I certainly never noticed the difference on mine.
These are the cheapest and I`ve been using them for years http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Enduro-tyres- ... 1e90ccc962

You cant do low pressures unless you have rim locks.

Make sure the gearbox shifts nicely through the gears and that there are no abnormal sounds or roughness from the gears. There have been some issues with the gearbox on the 650 SE models.
Also check the frame for corrosion as they are surprisingly thin wall steel.
