Hi guys

Give us a clue - who are you?

Hi guys

Name is Gerrard. I'm from sunny South Africa, where we ride all year round, and occasionally get time to work on our bikes. lawyer by trader, but biker and amateur engineer at heart. Recently got myself a '88 DR 750, which is intended as a project for a complete restore. Was meant to run it for a while, but then the clutch release pin, and bearing, chewed itself through the pressure plate. So now the bike is up on chocks and I'll be doing some fixes on it.

I've been around bikes a while and have a few others... BMW R65 (the commuter), Kawasaki KLX 650c (the play bike) BMW 1150 GSA (the mother ship). My life is biking and work is something I do in between rides.

I have some questions, for now, about the clutch pressure plate and bearing, and will chat about it on the appropriate board, when I find it.

You are the second Big owner from PE, search a thread "Hi from SA" (I think...) and you will find his rebuild of a 750.

Cheers

Yes, I think your referring to Ian, with the Black and White he rebuilt. We've chatted and he seems to know a bit. Need to get hold of him and see what he knows about my current problems.

Hello again. Its been a while. Was Jupiter, but forgot my login details and had to re-register.

The DR 750 was stripped for a rebuild, then I lost heart, life interrupted and I sold it to a friend. Then I ended up with a 1992 DR 800. My intension was actually to be done with old bikes and their troubles, but yes, we can't help ourselves I suppose.

Of course there are some issues which I will discuss on the appropriate boards. Overall the bike is good, at the moment fighting with the carbs to correct over fueling and suspect faulty CDI.

As for the over fueling, I think I've identified the problem. Incorrect float height and trying to sort it.
