Hello from SA!

Postby Bodhi » Tue May 09, 2017 3:43 pm

Hey guys.

I bought myself a 93 DR 800 on Sunday.
Shes going to be a labor of love but I reckon with all the knowledge that's floating around on this forum it'll be a dream!

Parts are pretty difficult to get hold of down here so I'll be contacting you guys often.

Anyhow Gotta run!

Cheers

So I did a little go over and an oil change this afternoon.

A little worried by a piece of what appears to be wire in the oil filter
Also I noticed that there were some cracks behind the filter :? Feeling a touch worried about that.

I'll upload some pictures of the bike tomorrow. I haven't taken any yet besides the worry I mentioned above...

These cracks or faults in the casting are common so not really an issue. My SR41 looks the same and most of my other bikes have shown similar signs. I have seen this in many die cast parts including car transmissions etc and it hasn't been a problem. I think it is part of the casting process and not a threat to the motor so don't worry. It is most likely due to shrinkage during the die casting process.

If it makes you feel better search "cracks" on the search bar top right and you will see an almost identical picture take by Tamtam and confirmation that Big Bob, Spendango, Wundis and GraySWTRF all have the same marks.

Very relieved to hear that!

Any idea where that piece of wire could have come from?

So I dropped a piece of one of my hand guards on the bike and it disappeared. 45 minutes later after stripping the plastics and tank off i found it stuck in the tiniest pocket on one of the tank covers  Anyhow I took a few pictures. What do you guys think?
