I remember many years ago modifying a friends LS650 as it was a complete slug barely capable of 60mph.
The exhaust header had a washer welded inside the top which cut the gas flow by about half, so we ground that off which made it much more free flowing and we got 75mph.
I checked out the carb and found that the plastic top has a spigot underneath (as they all do to locate the spring) well over an inch long which prevented the slide from opening fully, so that was cut down to allow the slide to open properly and it was easily the quickest Savage in the UK.
Still didn`t go round corners very well though ;)

My daughter had one years ago, she painted it black tiger stripes over pink & white.
I also modified the carb and exhaust for better performance.
That was a Canadian import.

How they came up with the name "Savage" is beyond me  "Salvage" would be more fitting. Great looking motor though and the bike does lend itself well to being modified, unlike the BIG which usually looks awful when hacked up.
