Hi there from Glasgow

Hi everyone from Glasgow. I'm now the proud owner of a 1990 DR800. Mot'd and taxed and perfectly rideable for the next few months and then it will get stripped and lightly refurbed over the winter.

Here's an interesting fact. The previous owner bought this bike in 1992 whilst living in the south of France. He met a guy at an International classic race meeting in Corbarieu in south France in 1992, who was involved in the Paris Dakar Rally. He said he loved that style of bike and would like one myself, turned out his father rode for the Gauloises race team and they had the remains of a Suzuki team bike. They only used Suzuki for one year and failed to finish, 3 bikes and all spares were taken over by another team, one bare bike was still at back of factory/workshop for unknown reasons. With help from these guys he managed to buy the bike and intended to rebuild it to the Dakar spec, but it was impossible to find any Dakar parts so he bought standard DR800 bodywork, tanks, lights, oilcooler etc

The rear subframe was badly damaged and had to be repaired. The extra brackets welded on the downtube for a larger oil cooler or something have been cut off but the remnants are still there unpainted.

The bike was French registered in 1992 until it was bought to uk and registered here in 2016. What an interesting story if true.

Here is a pic. It's put back to standard. Can't wait to start the refurb once the dark nights return.

Doesn't have the works kickstart on it which is a shame.

It looks okay from a distant but has been very well used. I plan to repaint the frame mainly because of the unpainted repairs and early modifications and everything else will be just lightly refurbished to save cost. I know what it's like to go in too deep with a rebuild and it ends up costing twice what the bike ends up being worth.!
