New DR800(to me)

Postby notags » Sat Sep 28, 2019 5:58 pm

Hi All,
Rode the new one back yesterday, why are these bikes quite so appealing?
It’s 1990 early 42a 800. I sure it’s UK bike,mph speedo. Bog standard,recommissioned after very little use in the last 23 years.
A inherited bike, that is running very well. I think the exhaust is waving good bye .FM NO SR42a100797!
I believe it’s in its original livery,Seats don’t seem to get any more comfortable though .
Enough to keep me busy over the winter.
Regards all.

Hi,
I believe the tail pipe has been repaired with a new skin(hence rivets),but I think the guts has collapsed!
Swing arm needs refinish ,only rust that is visible is to rear sub frame and main frame down spare in the normal place.
Every pipe, filter, cable has been replaced. Avon distanzas are at least 10 years old so are going, the chain set is in good repair but given its age it is skip bound.
Progress report to follow.

Hi,
Sorry to cause alarm Deano, I am very pleased with it so far this will be my 3rd DR800 but first twin tank!
I had a DR750 in the same livery about 5 years ago that I sold onto a guy from Lincoln....mind you most Bigs migrate back to
That neck of the woods!
Exhaust is going before it drops off! What is the current thinking on Silencer fit?
I have used a GPR before ,bit loud, and a long delivery wait.
Cheers all.

Was it Ally you sold it to? If so, he just sold recently.

May well have been ,he collected it in a Camper van if I recall. It was around 2010 ish.
Any tips for Silencer using the original header pipe?
Cheers.
