Headstock bearings.

Postby dave#22 » Sat Jul 21, 2018 10:12 am

I've just had to replace the headstock bearings on my SR41.
Originally it was fitted with a taper bottom bearing and a ball bearing top, but that was converted to taper top about 15 years ago.
I went to Simply Bearings and ordered a Timken (most expensive top quality) for the bottom.. 30x55x17 and a 25x48 (47 on later models) x15 for the top.
I carefully removed the lower bearing to protect the grease seal, then found the seal didn't fit the timken inner path.
I'd previously bought a lower grease seal 33-1007 32x51x5 for a previous job using a Toyo bearing, but it didn't fit the bearing, so I used the original Suzuki.
When I checked the 33-1007 against the Timken, it was a perfect fit, so it all went back together easily and it forms a better seal to the headstock as it has an external lip.
Hope it helps.
Dave.
