DR 750 starter motor - cannot be ordered

Postby mr__ping » Wed Jul 30, 2014 10:46 pm

Hi,

I've got a DR 750 -88 in Sweden where the starter motor has failed. The splines on the shaft are torned down 2mm and the slave gear beneath it is broken. The gear was easy to find and it fits, but the starter motor armature was wrong when I ordered BOTH from Holland (CMSNL) and from Johans MC in Sweden. They both sent me a part where the starter motors shaft was lathed down some millimeters when the splines began.

Anyone else seen this ? The starter motor im looking for should have a shaft where its the same diameter all over, not lathed down some millimeters.
What do you have on your bikes ?
Anyone seens this before ?

Cheers

Never ever heard of this before.
The s/motors from the 88/89 and 90 models are all the same.
The 91-97 800 models have a longer splined armature by about 10mm.
My guess is that it`s not the spline that is wrong but it`s the secondary intermediate cog that is wrong.
Best place for good second hand parts is German Ebay
Good luck.

Look at this picture... mine's on the left and the starter motor I got from Suzuki is on the right.
Does this make sense ?

I've heard that Savage 650 uses the same motor, look at this one:

The DR750 uses a different s/motor to the Savage, though they do look similar.
However, the armature on the Savage is the same as the DR750 so CMSNL sent you the correct part.
Maybe someone in the past has fitted a different armature to your starter and fitted a different intermediate gear to match.
Very strange............

The gear itself was exactly the same as the one before - i've already exchanged that.
Anyhow, I've ordered a DR800 starter + Savage starter, hopefully one of them will work :)
I can of course take out the armature and insert that into my old body if you're correct.
