Lithium ion battery

Postby Agiora » Fri Feb 02, 2018 12:33 pm

Hi guys,

I'd like to replace my battery with a more modern one, with no maintenance. I've read that the lithium-ion battery is reliable and much lighter than the acid one. However, since I'm not an expert, I don't want to buy the wrong battery.
Someone has this type of battery? Dr Big shop suggests : http://www.dr-big-shop.de/BIG_Elektrik_1242.html https://batterie24.de/JMT-Lithium-Ionen ... X5L-FP-12V.
Is it the right one?

Thanks
Agiora

You would be better off with a Motobatt gel battery

Why is it better? The lithium battery is lighter and has no maintainance.

Litium batteries can not be abused as a gell / glasmatt battery.

I know someone with a lithium battery in his BIG. This battery can only start his BIG with a warm engine. A cold engine must be started with a jumpstarter.
Maybe you save some weight, but you will not think of that when the big thumper refuses to start.

Have a motobatt in my own BIG, and I did not regret this "upgrade" for a minute. Because my engine has a raised compression, I had to upgrade my wiring from battery to the starter motor, but even than the Motobatt never let me down.

Don't bother with lithium on a single or twin. In the battery world I would consider these to be "Female" as opposed to the more conventional/predictable "Male" batteries. They really don't cut it as I have found. Best battery I had on BIG or any other bike for that matter was a Odyssey PC310. Smaller, Lighter, bloody expensive at around £100, but brilliant. Took major abuse, recovered from being flat in no time at all, can't fault them. Having given the lithium a go, I would definitely stick with more conventional battery tech on our bikes as they are less temperamental.

..........Odyssey.......
I'll second that...I've got one on my Guzzi, a small battery with a big twin and the last one lasted nearly 8 years, so I replaced with the same again.
On other bikes I use the Motobatt...no problems.

Thanks guys, now I have a better idea of which battery I should buy.
On Hessler's site it says indeed that if the bike struggles to start after 6-7 attempts it will drain. http://www.dr-big-shop.de/BIG_Elektrik_1424.html
Still I'm so tempted
