SR43 clocks on SR42

Postby Yuza » Tue Sep 26, 2017 1:26 pm

Hi all, are the clocks from SR43 good for SR42? I like them more than stock ones, a bit too oldstyle for me.
Easy to swap or many mods to be done?
Thx

Hi, I rebuilt my SR41 (drum brake) into a 42 frame (to get the hydraulic rear brake) using mainly 43 parts + electrics & wiring harness.
To my surprise, I found that the 41 tacho didn't work with the 43 electrics (alternator & CDI), so wanting to keep the 41 tacho, I replaced the inner workings with the 43.
So you may have the same issue in reverse.
Try a 43 tacho, before you dismantle anything.
Dave.

I assume this happened because Sr41 is 750cc and later models moved to 800cc and probably some electrics parts were reviewed?

Mine is a Sr42 800, and if what I am reading online is true, no major changes were done from 42 to 43 in the electrics, since the engine is the same

Bike is complete and running, so if I find a clock from sr43 it will be easy to test it.

I was asking because I don't want to waste money in buying something that will never work!

Thx

Hi, I've not had an 800 42, so I don't know if the alternator / CDI is similar to the earlier 750 41 or the later 800 43.
I would assume it's similar to the 41 as the 43 wiring harness / CDI is different.
Big Bob will know the answer.

SR42 and SR41 electrics are the same.
SR43 clocks are very hard to find as they are very fragile and break easily so you will not find a set for little money.

Thanks for the info.
Indeed, I can find few SR41 ones but none from SR43
By the way, I am thinking of replacing the front fork with a more modern one, basically to have a better front brake disc & caliper, therefore I will lose the speedo drive...I might then go for a digital instrument instead of stock dashboard
