DR800 (SR43A) Brakes Upgrades?

Postby Dr Mabuse » Wed Nov 15, 2017 1:50 pm

Hi folks

DR800 (SR43A) Brakes Upgrade?

I thought it better to start a fresh post with regard to brakes upgrade rather than expand my 'Update' post and thanks to those whom contributed.

Basically, most of the comments expressed have been instigated particulary regular maintenance. I think the mastercylinder & pads variances are negligible it's basically 'Old Tech' brake set up so in my mind it's going to cost several hundred €yoyos!

It's either going to be the 'HE' caliper, disc & fork brace upgrade or donor 'Front Fork & Wheel' conversion. The later is my preferred route but trying to retain standard ride height. I've got a professional 'Tool Maker & Engineering' shop nearby whom can do any machining & welding at reasonable rates.

So, has anyone undertaken a 'Front Fork Conersion' themselves using standard Yokes or, larger diameter WP, Marzocchi etc? I don't have a big budget either and, It's obviously hard to get hold of a good used set of forks too.

Thanks in advance....

Dave

On one of my Bigs I have a 4 pot Harrison caliper that is more than enough braking and can do stoppies with two fingers.
I got it for £50 off fleabay and it necessitated making up a bracket and spacers to fit, so could be a cheap way to go if you have the facilities.

From 1996 there's a new front brake, and that one brakes a lot better and fits on the older models [ you will need the adapter from the new brake also]. On the new brake is the name "Tokico" and its also mounted on the bikes on this list. [only a left one will fit! ]

I swapped DRZ forks onto my 750. If you search on here you will find it.
