Should one take out engine to dismantle motor head?

Postby oded » Sun Jun 24, 2018 7:10 am

I am about to update cam tensioner spring and replace camchain.
Can this be done with motor in the frame ?

Also what kind of cleanning should i apply to head and block surfaces prior to positionning new gasket ?

Thanks
Good w/e all:)

You can replace the camchain with the engine in the frame and it`s not a difficult job.
To replace the camchain tensioner you will have to remove the engine, and because it`s a very tight fit in the frame it`s easier to lay the bike on it`s left side and lift the frame off it.
Because of the weight it`s easier if you remove the front end and rear end unless you have several strong friends helping you.

thanks.

A
i assume the reason for taking out the engine is the need to seperate the head from the block which can be done only while motor is out of the frame ?

B.

one other question - normally should the tension plastic blade be replaced as well in that occasion ? does it tend to wear ?

thanks again.

Yes, you can`t take the head off while the engine is in the frame.
Tensioner blades very rarely wear out, though I have seen them broken into several pieces. If your blades look OK then you can reuse them.

i take the engine out by lying it to the right side and leave the bike as it is, lifting the bike with the engine out is easy. lifting the engine is a other thing but can do it all alone.
