Chainguard

Postby guru » Wed Jul 04, 2018 10:22 pm

Hello everyone,
I just changed sprockets and chain on my sr43, from 15/47 525 to 15/42 520. Everything looks ok but I noticed that the chain is in a little contact with the chainguard next to the front sprocket.. Is this normal or the chain shouldn't touch the chainguard at all?
Thanks.

Well I did some reading and I found this

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1140&hilit=sprocket+change&start=10

So I will check the front sprocket. Maybe it is fitted the wrong way. Any other help would be appreciated.

The chain should definitely not be touching the sprocket cover so it`s best you check it carefully.
I see you have geared up quite high with a 42 on the back. Good for distance work but you will lose a lot of flexibility.
There`s also a 525 conversion you can use as well. It came as standard on the 94-97 Big.

Thanks a lot. I changed to 15/42 because I m planning to do 1000-1200 km in motorways on vacation next month.. Tomorrow I will check the sprocket and I will try the inside out and see what happens. I did about 2-3 km with the chain touching the crankcase - chain guard, hope I didn't do any damage..

Problem solved!
My mechanic put the front sprocket the wrong way, with the flat side in...
