Also any tips on cleaning up the rocker cover before installing the new rockers? I could give it a good wash and spray out with brake cleaner but I don't want to disturb the decomp assembly as I have seen dire warnings in other posts from BigBob about touching it surely if I take the shaft out and refit it as exactly as it was it will be ok? The decomp spring is quite dirty.

I think I will just give it all a spray out with brake cleaner and avoid the decomp as if I touch it I will need to order a new oil seal, why fix what ain't broke.

Quite! If the seal isn`t leaking then leave it be.
Use Suzuki 3bond on the mating surfaces of the cam cover.

Well I have the cam installed now, I used a new locking washer on the sprocket and put some Honda Moly 60 paste on the cam bearing surfaces. I also used it on the rocker shafts.

Got the tank back on now and fired her up and here is the sound, no more very loud tappets but other noises now chains going around and the like but much quieter anyway. ;)

Cheers Hlime be honest the hardest most stressful part was putting the rocker cover back on, trying to get all the bolts in the right place then doing them up in the right order without stripping any threads.

I am not sure about the cam chain tensioner replacing that was easy but my engine had been in bits for a while and I was slowly putting it back together. Its a big job to change one on a running bike the engine has to come out.

My drive is covered in oil because I poured lots of clean oil over the cam and rockers through the inspection caps using a funnel... before I put the rotor cover back on. ;)

While I was at it I replaced my breather tube as the old one had gone hard and split with a bit of this tube off ebay:

I have put nearly £200 miles on the new cam and rockers now and have 15w40 Triple QX mineral oil in at the minute. I think I will do an oil and filter change and stick in some 10w40 Semi Synthetic.
