I put 3in1 oil down my ignition barrel..!

Postby nickmill » Thu Apr 05, 2018 12:03 pm

As the title suggests, I am a numpty.
The bike started after I applied said oil, but refused to start again. It now sounds like a dodgy solenoid or sticking starter.
I have attacked the front end, mudguard, clocks both panels and have exposed the base of the igntion, with the intention of cleaning, with alcohol, the affected internal areas or blowing it out proper with compressor. I have tried this in situ , but to no avail...
I cannot work out how to take off, or split the barrel.. As you can tell ,I am not a mechanic in any way, but In my defence my tiling & plastering are beyond reproach...
A long & hard winter has bin had, but now I need a blat.. Please, anyone ?

Further to my post.. The ignition seems to show the neutral light, then when I attempt to start the bike it goes out.. It just seems that shorting is occuring, & perhaps not a starter fault. It has always started, until the oil was administered.. #SunAndChemtrails_InBrittanyFrance

If your badly stuck and need to start the bike unplug the ignition switch from the loom, the green multi plug, cut and join the red and orange wires on the switch not the loom then separately join the black and the grey, plug the switch back into the loom and the bike will start

Stab in the dark. But have you checked your battery. What your describing sounds like a flat battery. And the oil could just be a coinsadance. I wasn't aware that 3in1 oil could corse a problem.
Sorry if i have missed out on something

Ta for the reply. The battery is fully charged, the starter engages when the contacts are crossed under the seat.. The bike would not start an hour after i Lub'ed the ignition.
A MaccyD straw in the ignition, pouring degrease down it, then putting pencil dust on the key for lube..
Dremmel some slits so I can split the barrel next..
Arrggghh
Cheers again.

I once put 3 in 1 oil down my japs eye...couldn't piss for a week!. Seriously though. As mentioned it could be a flat or duff battery. Could also be a poor connection to the battery of some other connection which is not sound.

Maybe get somebody who is a bit more familiar with such issues to give it a look over.
