XL 600 LMF

Postby spendango » Thu Aug 03, 2017 10:20 pm

I was looking at an XL600 LMF that has been sitting 10 years in the owners garage , tank is very good wheels are good ,engine needs re painted and frame needs the same ,exhaust is rotten and it generally needs a rebuild as the motor has sat so long i'm thinking at least valve stem oil seals as it was stored with oil in it in the dry I don't think the bottom end would need rebuilt , carbs sonically cleaned , new tyres , So I know your guessing but what's it worth ???? They are like hens teeth to get I'm thinking £500 on paint and parts :wtf: as a winter project , bear in mind even shittty XL's are fetching well over a grand ,what would you pay ??

Personally I wouldn`t touch it withe proverbial barge pole.
I remember them having terrible top end oil feed problems plus the usual chocolate camshaft.
A couple of my friends bought one and both of them got so fed up with all the problems from new that they just backed them to the dealer.
Not Honda`s finest model.
You also have to ask why it was parked up for ten years. Maybe it also had problems that were beyond economic repair.
Tread carefully!

The guy selling it has a few bikes and he started to tidy it up , the bike was partially stripped and then he moved onto something else

Good question. Does rare equal good? Also in bits. Dont really know what it needs? I wouldnt want to pay much over £300. But guy likely will want much more.

They are rare ,but i'm thinking the worst , with an engine build you could be into big money ,there was one on fleabay needing a piston and rebuild for £1400
